The Guidelines Methodology
The Egyptian Urological Guidelines has been produced as an initiative of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals to collaborate with the Egyptian Society of Urological Researches (ESURS). This has been supported by the Egyptian Medical Association.
The guidelines committees have looked at published evidence and produced recommendations at two clear levels; strongly recommended or weakly recommended to make it simple and easy for the reader.
To create the Egyptian Urological guidelines, the committees’ members extended their research according to the information based on electronic searches of Medline, EMBASE (covering last 15 years), the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) and the “NICE” website.
Hand searching of recent issues of major American, European and British journals in urology, endourology, uro-oncology, pediatric urology and urogynaecology was undertaken, to capture recent publications not yet included in the online databases.
The European Association of Urology (EAU), The American Urological Association (AUA) guidelines were also reviewed. The International Continence Society (ICS) terminology and standardization reports and the International Consultation on Incontinence (ICI) recommendations were reviewed
Adaptation of the Egyptian cultural aspects, the level of urologists capabilities and the availability of well equipped hospitals were considered in the methodology of diagnosis and different treatment modalities
